Songmont in Shanghai 2025
Windborne · Becoming
When the wind rises, a seed begins its journey. Born of the wind, it crosses mountains and seas, carrying curiosity and a trace of unease, venturing into the unknown. Through a cascade of encounters and flows, it explores the outer world, seeking its own place to land. Rooting down, gathering strength to grow, it blossoms into a realm of boundless wilderness.
From May 24 to June 15, the "Windborne·Becoming" exhibition by Songmont is held at Shanghai ROCKBUND, Zhong'an Meifeng Building. Founded in 2013, Songmont has, over 12 years, journeyed like a seed from its roots in the cultural heartland of the Loess Plateau. Guided by the wind, it moves forward with poise and conviction, rooted in self-awareness, reaching toward nature—anchoring itself in heartfelt products and growing upward into a culture of influence, sharing captivating Eastern stories with the world.

Seed Curtain
The exhibition begins with wind. Parting a curtain of bodhi seeds, meticulously strung together by deaf-mute artisans, visitors become seeds themselves, invited by the wind to embark on this journey. Here, whether sitting or strolling, the wind ceases to be abstract—it brushes past you, sparking collisions or rippling the water's surface. The undulating trace of curves, like the whisper of the wind, flows freely and lightly, gently awakening your awareness of nature.

Seed Balloons
Scattered across the plaza, seed balloons capture the shapes and textures of real seeds. As if gently lifted by the wind, they leave trails of inspiration floating in this space, reflecting Songmont's creative milestones over 12 years. Throughout its journey, thought has been the seed's inner compass, guiding its path through the wind. It determines the soil where the seed lands and the stance it takes as it grows.

This exhibition is the seed's soliloquy, but also a call to friends through the wind. It invites every visitor to let go of preconceived paths and step into the flow of the wind—to witness how a bag takes shape and matures over time, and to listen for voices that remain open in the wind yet hold fast to their own rhythm.
On opening day, creators, storytellers, and doers from diverse fields bring their own seeds, enriching this wondrous journey of wind and seed with deeper meaning.

At the exhibition, artists are invited to give voice to the wind and the seed through their unique creative languages, offering a broader, more diverse perspective on sustainability and ways of seeing the world.

The unpredictable, ever-changing wind calls us to step beyond familiar soil into the flow. The wind may not offer answers, but the seed, carried by gust after gust, will find its path to growth, bearing potential and conviction.
